Efrosini Mandelis was born in the summer of 1969 to immigrants from the island of Kefalonia, Greece, and grew up in the suburbs of Syracuse, New York. When she enrolled in school, her name was changed to Francine — a name that never quite resonated so when her basketball team nicknamed her “Max," she embraced it. Among Hellenes, she is still Ευφροσύνη.
Max graduated cum laude from Boston College in 1991, participating in exchange programs in San Francisco & London. She relocated to Atlanta in 1995, where she has built a meaningful life rooted in community.
Since 1997, Max has worked in commercial real estate with a focus on adaptive reuse and creative industries. She advocates for small businesses and affordable commercial space, and she is civically engaged in conversations around design, equity, sustainability, and the impact of development on surrounding communities.
Max moves through the city by bicycle and lives in Midtown—Ansley Park, where she shares custody of a sweet rescue dog. 🐾 She values peace & quiet, nourishing food, deep friendships, studying the enneagram, and exploring places near and far. She loves animals, hugs trees, practices yoga, and walks in the sunlight of the spirit.
